Washington State carbon pricing bill passes Senate Environment, Energy, & Technology Committee

A revised version of SB 6203, bill to put a price on carbon in Washington State, was passed by the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee. The bill has moved to the Senate Ways and Means committee for further consideration before going to the floor for a full vote.

SB 6203 proposes a new tax of $20 per metric ton of carbon emissions beginning in 2019. In 2021 it would increase $2 per ton each year until it is capped at $30 a ton.
